Functional Capacity Assessments Tailored to Your Needs

Our experienced occupational therapists carry out detailed Functional Capacity Assessments to understand your abilities across key areas such as communication, mobility, self-care, social participation, learning, and work. These assessments play a vital role in shaping a personalised NDIS plan that aligns with your unique needs and goals.

What is a Functional Capacity Assessment?

A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) evaluates an individual’s ability to perform daily tasks and identifies any limitations due to disability, injury, or illness. Conducted by qualified professionals such as occupational therapists, it provides a clear picture of a person’s strengths and support needs. The goal is to develop a tailored plan to enhance independence and achieve meaningful goals through a combination of interviews, observations, and standardised assessments.

What Does a Functional Capacity Assessment Include?

A Functional Capacity Assessment is tailored to the individual and explores key areas of daily life, including personal care, mobility, communication, work tasks, social participation, and cognitive function. Each assessment provides a personalised understanding of how a person’s abilities and challenges impact their daily activities, helping to inform the right supports and services.

The Functional Capacity Assessment Process

Our Functional Capacity Assessments follow a structured, person-centred approach that considers all aspects of daily life. The process includes an initial interview, real-time observation of tasks, input from family or carers (if relevant), and standardised assessments as needed. All findings are compiled into a detailed report with tailored recommendations to support NDIS planning and help individuals achieve greater independence.

How Long Does a Functional Capacity Assessment Take?

The duration of a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) typically takes up to 15 hours, depending on the complexity of the individual’s needs. This includes time for interviews (30–60 minutes), observation and testing (several hours), and report preparation (several hours). Each assessment is personalised to ensure a comprehensive evaluation that informs the development of effective support plans and services.

How Quickly Do I Receive My Report?

Our standard turnaround is currently between 7 and 14 business days. Each assessment is personalised to ensure a comprehensive evaluation that informs the development of effective support plans and services.

Increased Independence & Enhanced Well-being

FCAs identify areas where assistance or adaptive equipment is needed, helping clients perform daily activities more independently.

Understanding a client’s functional abilities allows an occupational therapist to create a tailored support plan that promotes both physical and emotional well-being, supporting long-term health and happiness.

Better Support for Family and Caregivers

FCAs provide valuable insights for family members and caregivers, helping them understand the level of support needed. This can prevent caregiver burnout and ensure the support network is well-equipped to meet the client’s needs.

Tailored Therapeutic Goals

Each client has unique challenges and goals. An FCA helps occupational therapists set personalized, realistic, and meaningful therapeutic objectives, ensuring the client remains motivated and experiences measurable progress in their functional capacity.
